What is the Summer Meals Program?
The Summer Meals program provides no-cost meals and snacks to children during the summer months and long school vacations. While child hunger is a problem year round, it is of special concern during the summer and over long school breaks when children are unable to access school meals.
Community locations such as recreation centers, churches, day camps, parks and schools offer free breakfast, lunch, supper and/or snacks that meet federal nutrition guidelines, as well as fun, engaging activities for kids and teens to exercise their minds and their bodies.
In Colorado, it is administered by the Colorado Department of Education and supported by Hunger Free Colorado, as well as hundreds of Colorado organizations that are providing summer meals in their communities and neighborhoods.
Am I eligible?
- There are no income or registration requirements for participation.
- The program serves kids and teens up to 18 years old.
- A person 19 years and older who has a mental or physical disability (as determined by a State or local education agency) and participates during the school year in a public or private non-profit school program may also receive free meals.
