Our Work

Leverage and Strengthen Federal Nutrition Programs

Federal nutrition programs like SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and the National School Lunch Program go beyond simply offering a meal. They provide economic relief for the many Colorado families that struggle to make ends meet. These programs offer resources that can be counted on and that do not depend on the generosity of strangers, rooted in the principle that access to healthy food is a human right, not charity.

  • SNAP provides 9x more resources than all of the charitable food system combined, reducing hunger and boosting local economies. We are the primary statewide organization that provides awareness, information and application assistance to ensure eligible families can benefit from this resource.
  • Child Nutrition Programs build a strong foundation for the health and well-being of Colorado kids. Getting adequate nutrition at a young age has long lasting positive impacts for health and educational success. We work with schools, community partners and colleges to ensure Colorado students have the fuel they need to thrive.

Community Driven Solutions

The work of ending hunger is not the work of any one individual or organization – it will take a broad and diverse movement built on collaboration and support. We are committed to strengthening community capacity to create equitable access to healthy, culturally relevant food.

  • We believe it is important that community members that are most impacted by hunger, those who have lived expertise, are driving forward anti-hunger solutions. We partner with and provide training and support to community members in a variety of ways, including through our Community Council and Hunger Through My Lens Exhibit.
  • We collaborate with organizations on the frontlines all across Colorado that are deeply engaged with their communities and re-envisioning how our food systems should work through community-centered service, coalition-building and advocacy.

Building Support for the Cause

We will only end hunger when we all commit to doing our part to creating a world in which everyone has the reliable access to the healthy, culturally relevant food needed to thrive. Everyone has a role to play in make this vision a reality, which is why we work to build broad-based support for the anti-hunger cause.

  • We need your voice to be heard loud and clear by our elected officials. We have developed an Action Network that brings together thousands of community members from across the state to advocate on critical policy changes.
  • Our work to end hunger will not happen overnight – it will take a long-term commitment to creating sustainable, structural change. Consider joining our Full Plate Society through a monthly donation. Lots of people giving as little as $5 a month can together make a huge impact.
