Community Voices

Every voice matters.

Hunger Free Colorado’s Community Voices work curates and highlights the lived experience of those dealing with the realities of hunger, those who are otherwise on the frontlines of food access, and those who are working at the systems level to change it. We wish to raise awareness and inspire advocacy through the stories we share from the individuals, organizations, and communities who know the most about hunger, including the barriers—and the solutions—that exist.

Community Council
Our Community Council is a cohort of individuals with lived or living experience with hunger who want to build advocacy skills and use them to address food access barriers in their communities. This group commits to meet virtually every month for two years, with online engagement around projects of their choosing throughout the year. This program is crucial to how Hunger Free Colorado envisions building power in community and creating feedback loops that inform and influence our policy initiatives. Through this work, we want to open doors to spaces where decisions are made, ensuring those most affected by decisions have a voice at the table.

Hunger Through My Lens

Our Hunger Through My Lens program is a multi-media platform where those with personal experience with hunger may share their stories for public consumption, in an effort to build awareness and stir action in those that interact with the exhibit. Launched as a photovoice project, the exhibit now includes video interviews and a virtual reality short-movie created around the shared stories of those with lived experience with hunger.
